Should you make a photo?
Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.
This page covers a state identification card. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, learner permits, or every exception.
Issuing agency: New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles
Where the photo is taken
New Hampshire non-driver IDs are applied for at a DMV office by appointment and renewed in person at a DMV office. State law requires the card to bear your picture, and the DMV refers to an image on file. The reviewed DMV pages do not describe the photo step and do not ask you to bring a photo.
Online or mail renewal and replacement
Eligible holders may renew a non-driver ID online, as indicated on the renewal notice. By statute, online renewal requires a computerized image already on file, is allowed only every other renewal cycle, and the next cycle must be done in person.
Photo law and rules
RSA 260:21, III requires the card to bear the applicant's picture and signature; RSA 260:21, IV limits online renewal to applicants with a computerized image on file, once every other renewal cycle.
