Do you need to make a photo?

Do not prepare a separate photo unless the state agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one. The agency procedure below describes where a photo is captured and what is known about remote renewal.

This page covers a driver license. It does not automatically apply to learner permits, state identification cards, commercial endorsements, or every exception.

Photo law and requirements

New Hampshire RSA 263:40, I requires a driver license to bear an instant full-face photograph, image, or likeness of the licensee; paragraphs II and III also refer to the applicant's picture on REAL ID-compliant and enhanced licenses. RSA 263:10, II lets the director adopt rules for online renewal instead of in-person appearance only if the applicant, among other conditions, has a computerized image on file with the division. A license may be renewed online only once in every other renewal cycle, and the next cycle requires appearance in person at a licensing facility. The statutes do not say who takes the photograph. The controlling photo statutes were reviewed; the administrative-rule audit (Saf-C 1000) remains pending.

Where the photo is taken

New Hampshire materials describe a photographic driver license and periodic in-person renewal, but the current capture and remote-renewal rules need confirmation.

Online renewal, photo reuse, and upload

Do not rely on this older agency form to decide whether you need a new photo; check the current renewal notice and DMV instructions.

New photo upload: Only treat upload as allowed when the linked official instructions explicitly say so.
