Should you make a photo?

Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.

This page covers a learner (instruction) permit. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, state ID cards, or every exception.

Where the photo is taken

Connecticut DMV takes your photo during your in-person learner's permit appointment, where you take the vision and knowledge tests; you get a temporary paper permit and the permanent permit is mailed.

Online steps and photo upload

You schedule and prepay the permit test online, but you do not supply a photo; the DMV says providing a photo to apply is not necessary because it takes the photo at the appointment.
