Where the photo is taken

A new photograph is taken at a Colorado driver license office; an in-office visit (by appointment at state offices) is required for a first REAL ID and for name changes.

Online or mail renewal and replacement

ID card holders 21 and older may renew online; under 21 must visit an office. The DMV's mail renewal form for applicants 80 and older (DR 2330, covering licenses and ID cards) says you may renew by mail only if your photo on file meets federal REAL ID photo requirements, that if you are eligible to renew by mail you may also renew online, and that a new photograph requires an office visit. No applicant photo upload is described.
