Should you make a photo?
Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.
This page covers a state identification card. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, learner permits, or every exception.
Issuing agency: South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles
Where the photo is taken
You apply for or renew an ID card in person at an SCDMV branch. You get a temporary certificate there and the card comes by mail. The reviewed ID-card page does not say whether a new photo is taken at the branch, and it does not ask you to bring one.
Online or mail renewal and replacement
Eligible holders can renew an ID card online, and SCDMV uses your current photo and signature and mails the new card. You cannot renew online if you renewed by mail or online last time, if you are not a U.S. citizen, or if the card has been expired more than nine months.
Photo law and rules
A photo-specific statute or rule for this credential has not yet been summarized on this page.
