Should you make a photo?
Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.
This page covers a state identification card. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, learner permits, or every exception.
Issuing agency: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
Where the photo is taken
PennDOT takes the photo at a PennDOT Photo License Center (photo center). You bring your camera card and identification; you do not bring a photo.
Online or mail renewal and replacement
You can renew a photo ID online, by mail, or through a local online messenger service, but PennDOT then mails a camera card that you take to a photo center for the new card and photo. You can apply for a duplicate online if PennDOT has your photo and signature on file, and it carries your current picture; if no picture is on file, PennDOT mails a camera card instead.
Photo law and rules
A photo-specific statute or rule for this credential has not yet been summarized on this page.
