Where the photo is taken

A Driver Service Bureau station takes a new photo when you renew or replace your state ID in person. If you do not have a valid photo on file, you must go to a station to have your picture taken.

Online or mail renewal and replacement

Eligible U.S. citizens with a valid ID card can renew online, but only every other renewal and from 6 months before to one year after expiration; a duplicate ID can also be ordered online and is mailed to the address on your license. The online pages describe no option to upload your own photo, and if you do not have a valid photo, you must visit a station to have your picture taken.
