Should you make a photo?

Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.

This page covers a learner (instruction) permit. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, state ID cards, or every exception.

Where the photo is taken

Mississippi DPS rule says that since June 1, 2003, paper permits are no longer issued and a photo permit (same as a driver license) is issued. You apply in person at a Driver License station, where you must pass the knowledge and eye exams. The current DPS learner's permit page does not say separately where the permit photo is taken.

Online steps and photo upload

DPS recommends booking an appointment online, but all knowledge exams must be taken in person. No page reviewed lets you upload your own photo. (The online duplicate service, which covers driver licenses and ID cards, says anyone without a valid photo must come to a station to have the picture taken.)

Photo law and rules

Mississippi DPS rule 31 Miss. Admin. Code Pt. 1, R. 3.12 states that paper permits ended June 1, 2003, and a photo permit is issued.
