Should you make a photo?

Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.

Where the photo is taken

Louisiana ID cards with a new photo are produced in person at an OMV field office (Public Tag Agents also serve REAL ID applicants). Any change of information or REAL ID requires an office visit.

Online or mail renewal and replacement

If you receive a renewal invitation in the mail, you can renew your ID card online through ExpressLane without a new photo, but at the next renewal you must visit a field office to have a card made with an updated photo. Online renewals without REAL ID are marked “Not for Federal Identification,” and no photo upload is offered.
