Should you make a photo?

Do not prepare your own photo unless the agency or your transaction instructions specifically ask for one.

This page covers a learner (instruction) permit. It does not automatically apply to driver licenses, state ID cards, or every exception.

Where the photo is taken

Alaska requires an in-person DMV office visit to get an instruction permit. The Alaska driver manual says your picture is taken after all requirements for a license or permit are completed.

Online steps and photo upload

You can take the instruction-permit knowledge test online and make an office appointment online, but the permit is issued at a DMV office. The reviewed pages offer no way to upload your own photo.
